The Energisa Búzios Sailing Week 2026 came to an end on Easter Sunday (the 5th), at the Iate Clube Armação de Búzios (ICAB), with a high technical level, balanced contests and the presence of the main names of national sailing, including Olympic medallists Torben Grael, Marcelo Ferreira and Kiko Pelicano.
Six races were held from Thursday (the 2nd) on the Búzios course, with predominantly strong winds for the ORC classes, considered the Formula 1 of ocean sailing, and the BRA-RGS.
Crioula 52 confirms its status as favourite in the ORC
In the ORC overall standings, the great champion was the Crioula 52, which confirmed its status as favourite with a consistent campaign throughout the six races, winning 50% of them. Skippered by Eduardo Plass, the boat from Rio Grande do Sul totalled just 7 points lost and secured the title comfortably. Behind it, the Magia IV, of Torben Grael, finished second, followed by the Duma, of Haakon Lorentzen.
In the Cruiser-Racer division, the Dona Bola overcame challenges throughout the competition to secure the title, even with crew changes on the last day. The Argentine Double Black finished second, followed by the Maestrale IV.
"We have had the same crew for a long time, and that makes a difference. It is constant work, with preparation and a sequence of championships, which is reflected in the results," highlighted Guilherme Hammelmann, of the Crioula 52, also champion the previous year.
Two-time Olympic champion Torben Grael, skipper of the runner-up Magia IV, praised the organisation: "It was another wonderful edition. The wind varied over the days, but the sailing here is always special. Congratulations to the club and the organisers."
Bierkaai dominates the BRA-RGS and the Lachmann Trophy is revived
In the BRA-RGS class, the Bierkaai dominated the competition with a perfect campaign, winning all the races held and securing the title with just 5 points lost, in a true match race against the Tangará II La Borie.
In addition to the contests on the water, the 2026 edition also marked the revival of the traditional Lachmann Trophy, reinforcing the history of ocean sailing in Brazil and the sport's connection with Búzios. The 39th edition, organised by the ICAB in partnership with CBVela and ABVO, gathered great names of Brazilian sailing, such as Torben Grael, Marcelo Ferreira, Marcos Soares, Kiko Pelicano, Daniel Santiago and Samuel Albrecht.
Commodore of the ICAB, Olympic champion Marcos Soares highlighted the event's success: "The event was a success, with exemplary organisation. We had varied conditions, which gave everyone an opportunity. It is a great gathering of champions and a special moment for the club, which is coming back to life."
Expectations now turn to 2027, when the Búzios Sailing Week will celebrate its 40th edition.
